Let me start by saying Josh is an easy target. He is the only boy in the house and sometimes he does things that self paint a target on his back. Not to mention that any of my three girls would pay for the privilege to sell him out. And I don’t mean that in a trivial way. Allow me to explain.
Each of my daughters has (as Liam Neeson says in Taken) “…a very particular set of skills. Skills [they] have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make [them] a nightmare for people like [thier brother]”.
Ava is our FBI agent. There is no sneakiness about her. She is always keeping tabs on everything, and prepared to file an injunction against anyone who may not be living up to the standards of our home… well other then her of course. If someone has done something wrong, Ava will be the first on the scene to document the malfeasance.
On the surface Julie is a wonderful and sweet child and strives to be everyone’s friend. But. Don’t mistake her, she is skilled with the wet work. And if you cross her she isn’t going to stab you in the back. She will do it your heart, and it will be quick and fast. Yes, Julie is our CIA agent.
And then there is Emma. While she doesn’t work for a government agency, she has a different set of skills. She is both the martyr and the instigator. On the one hand she is the mastermind of all of the undercover operations and yet she is also the one who feels wronged .
Obviously this is all said in jest. I mean yes, to a degree, all three of them have those traits, but the truth is they are so much more than that. They are happy girls who almost always are content to live the simple pleasures of life.
And that is why when people really want to know what it is like to live with three girls, my answer is that we are living in a musical where all of the cast is singing and dancing to different songs at the same time, There are interpretive dances, songs that repeat over and over, home made music videos and more Taylor Swift than I thought was possible. But regardless of how much of the musical lifestyle they live, heaven help me if I join in. Because if I do, then throughout the whole house all that can be heard is:
“Mom… tell Dad to stop singing with us”.
