Today, I went outside to take a couple of pictures for one of my classes. As I was walking back to the house, I saw this little flower. There was something about it that I found intriguing. Little did I know the realization that it was going to have.
First. let me say that the green of our yard is made up of weeds. We have well water, live in the woods and have a lot of hard clay like soil. So irrigating and trying to get beautiful grass would be hard to impossible. So instead we have embraced the any green ground covering is fine. In fact last year we added clover seed to the ground to help encourage a better ground cover.
Anyway, after I took the pictures I came inside to see what the flower was. It was obvious that the flower came from the same shoot as the clover and I don’t recall seeing this before. After searching the internet for clover and yellow flower I learned that it is oxalis stricta… which is a pretty fancy name for this weed.
But then it came to me… the colors of Clover Hill High School (where I attended) are Kelly Green and Gold. I ALWAYS disliked the combination of the two. But seeing this flower and clover combination, I see was the supposive logic for the colors. Not that I agree with it, but now I at least know why….. I think.
